BYU Gets Tougher Than Expected Test in UVA

BYU football is flying high right now.
The Cougars are 3-0 for the first time since 2008; they are getting a ton of national media attention, and they have moved up to Nos. 21 and 23 respectively in the latest major polls.
One thing that would make things even sweeter is for them to get redemption for last season’s debacle at Virginia by knocking off the Cavaliers in LaVell Edwards Stadium this Saturday.
BYU laid an egg in Charlottesville during a rain-drenched, weather-delayed game to open the 2013 season, losing to a bad …

With a jam-packed holiday season spread out between Arizona, Southern California, and the Bay Area, I ended up booking a return flight home for the evening of New Year’s Day. After spending the afternoon with my parents as they put away Christmas decorations and cleaned the house, we headed to the airport.

As we drove, we pointed out the fairly empty freeways, a complete surprise compared to usual, and the curbside drop-off looked almost as barren. When I walked inside, only three people stood in front of me in the security checkpoint line… I suppose many folks decided to extend their holiday vacations to the very end of New Year’s week!

A few more people hauling plenty of luggage milled about the concourse and food courts inside of the terminal, grabbing snacks and dinner for their flights, but I kept walking straight to my gate, one almost at the far end of the building. However, I nearly paused when I spotted…

The See’s Candy booth with a large sign prominently displaying a massive discount on their assorted boxes of holiday truffles! You know how much I love chocolate… And I will always make room for it in my luggage!

Yet as I slowed my pace to get a better look, I realized that the remaining boxes all contained milk chocolate truffles… And I’m definitely a dark chocolate girl. I smiled to myself, the temporary temptation completely gone, and continued down the walkway to my gate.

Even so, my mind kept wandering back to chocolate truffles during my short one-hour flight, and I started thinking about some of my favorite truffle flavors. These chocolate chip cookie dough ones, these pumpkin ones, these eggnog ones, these snickerdoodle ones

Mark Barroca ‘miracle shot’ puts Magnolia on brink of ending San Miguel’s PH Cup reign

MANILA, Philippines–Magnolia coach Chito Victolero had little to say about his team’s loss to San Miguel two nights ago.

His team would rather let their game speak—especially Mark Barroca—in the Hotshots’ stunning victory over the San Miguel Beermen, 88-86, to take a 3-2 Philippine Cup Finals series lead Friday night at Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.

Barroca tied his sterling performance in Game 4 in most impressive fashion, sinking a mid-range jumpshot to win the game and put his team on the brink of the championship and cap what had been an eventful night in one fell swoop.

“I love that guy. He’s not afraid to shoot,” coach Victolero said. “Saktong, sakto ‘yung tira.”

“It was a miracle shot. I know that when they have some runs, we just needed to weather the storm,” he said. “This is the ballgame we wanted—as close as possible—to just have that chance in the end.”

The roller-coaster game hit fever pitch when a spectator in Spider-man costume stormed center court and accidentally hit June Mar Fajardo.

From thereon, the Beermen moved closer to the Hotshots all thanks to Terrence Romeo’s triple that knotted the game at 86.

The Hotshots have a chance to dethrone the four-time defending champions this Sunday at the same venue.

“Yes,” he said about being one game away from a championship. “But we know San Miguel. They won’t go down that easily.”
